In 1995 he took early retirement from the Royal Air Force in the rank of Group Captain where he was the Provost Marshal at HQ Strike Command. He returned to Alnwick where he was born and brought up and joined Barter Books as General Manager, retiring recently after 24 years of employment.
He lives in Alnwick with his wife of 51 years marriage. His two sons and grandchildren also live in Alnwick.
He is a Trustee and Director of Alnwick Playhouse, Alnwick Youth Hostel, Alnwick Junior Football Club and the Northumberland Fusiliers Museum. After 26 years managing Alnwick Christmas Lights Committee he is now Life President.
Councillor Castle is also an active member of Alnwick Lions and keeps fit by running and regular gym sessions. He is a lifelong and active motorcyclist.
