Councillor Catherine Donovan

Councillor Catherine Donovan was elected to Gateshead Council in 2002. She was elected Deputy Leader of the Council in May 2016, having previously been a member of the Cabinet since 2004.

During her time, she has held the portfolios for Community Safety, Children and Young People, Housing and Health and Wellbeing. Catherine also has responsibility for anti-poverty strategies within the council.  
 
Catherine was born in Gateshead and has lived here most of her life. She worked in the NHS for 27 years and was a qualified Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor. Catherine enjoys working in her local community and is interested in public health, supporting families, equality of access to education from children to older people and the regeneration of Gateshead.  
 
Catherine enjoys reading and travelling in her spare time.
