Cabinet

Purpose

The Business and Economy Board, which is the North East CA’s “Business Board”, brings together industry leaders and stakeholders to drive economic growth, investment, and prosperity across the region by sharing with the North East CA the view of business and economic interests in the Combined Area.

Representatives of the Business and Economy Board are also on the portfolio advisory boards, enabling more senior leaders and industry experts to play their part in delivering the Local Growth Plan.

Areas of work

 The Board will:

  • Help shape the Authority’s thinking on short and long-term issues of importance to businesses and the region’s economic future.
  • Cover a range of business topics that the Authority is directly involved with and where in-depth business input strengthens its thinking, supports delivery, and secures backing.
  • Share intelligence which informs the region’s approach to delivering the business facing interventions including business growth, skills programmes, and investments in digital and physical infrastructure.
  • Serve as an early forum to surface issues that the Mayor and the Cabinet may need to address.
  • Establish task and finish groups and/or hold workshops to facilitate wider cross board working.
  •  Advocacy, networking, and engagement regionally.

The Business and Economy Board will support the Mayor and Cabinet’s Local Growth Plan, providing guidance on how best to deliver its five missions:

  • Home to a growing and vibrant economy for all
  • Home of the green energy revolution
  • A welcoming home to global trade
  • Home of real opportunity
  • A North East we are proud to call home
