Responding to the government’s Industrial Strategy, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness said:

“The new Industrial Strategy brings forward investment that will boost jobs and grow our industries, creating a stronger North East which will benefit generations to come.

“The North East is a manufacturing powerhouse and the Industrial Strategy backs us to grow this further. This Government has listened when we said energy costs for our businesses are too high - reducing costs by at least 25% will both safeguard jobs and help us attract businesses to create more. By alleviating this burden for business, we will see companies focus on their growth and invest in areas that will enhance their productivity and competitiveness, such as digital adoption and upskilling.

“With additional support for our advanced manufacturing sector, dedicated funding for our creative industries and investment in clean energy and skills, this is a strategy that is clearly aligned to our Local Growth Plan, and one which will allow our businesses to thrive.”
